With about 5 million tourists a year Tenerife is one of the more popular travel destinations within Spain with plenty of sights and sounds for the vacationer. This unique territory boasts quite a number of monuments including the Castle of San Andres and 6 Gumar pyramids. For the history buffs the enigma behind the creation of the pyramids ought to be as fascinating as the structures themselves.

In addition to this the architecture in Tenerife is also quite remarkable for those keen enough to take note especially with regards to the unsophisticated facades and wooden lattices. Most of the manor houses are characterized by internal courtyards that double up as gardens while bringing in extra illumination into the home.

Because Spain as a whole is a deeply religious nation religious structures are in abundance and the architecture is mottled with respect to the predominant styles of the century.
One of the most beautiful and important is the Cathedral of La Laguna completed in 1915 and is home to the remains of the islands conqueror Alonso Fernandez de Lugo. The magnificent Cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site built using, among others, Gothic architecture.

However, if history and architecture is not your cup of tea then there are very many traditional carnivals to indulge in that are popular at regional and international levels. The most celebrated is the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife that is held for 10 days once the carnivals queen has been selected. As with all other carnivals in the area the entertainment that comes along with the carnival is intense and includes masquerades and minstrels. This is truly a street carnival Tenerife style.

Other interesting ports of call while on Tenerife holidays would be the abundant museums. The key ones are the Architectural Museum, Canarian Institute of Bio anthropology and the Museum of Natural Sciences. These have amazing exhibitions on offer and it would be in bad taste to rush through any of the items on display. For utmost viewing pleasure dedicate several hours a day to get into the thick of things especially at the Museum of Science and the Cosmos which is absolutely captivating.

From history to the future, street carnivals to incredible beaches Tenerife has something to offer the senses each direction you look. With all the sightseeing you are certain to mull over leave some room for the astronomical delights in Tenerife and do not depart before you have sampled the Canarian wrinkly potatoes.
